Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1.     The aim of this study is to understand the sustainability of NTFP-based community enterprises in Indonesia. Hence, present the scope, knowledge gaps, and research questions (hypotheses) on the topic clearly and concisely with proper literature support in the Introduction section.

2.     Give the sampling technique, sampling framework, sample size determination, and sampling intensity employed to select the sample consisting of SFEs types for the study in the Materials and Methods section.

3.     The Materials and Methods section lacks a description regarding the demographic, socioeconomic, biophysical, land use pattern, and livelihood backgrounds of the study area, which needs to be incorporated.

4.     Improve the Discussion section by discussing the research findings to interpret them in proper perspective, relate them to other relevant studies, and arrive at valid conclusions and recommendations.

5.     Break the long sentences into shorter sentences to help readers understand easily. Rewrite the sentences marked in the text and make the hazy sentences lucid (Lines 105-109). Check spelling mistakes thoroughly and correct them.

6.     Some statements need supporting references; cite those references. Provide expanded forms of acronyms when they first appear in the text.

7.     Could you convert the Indonesian currency to USD for the entire study so that it can be understood easily worldwide and compared with other studies? Mention the equivalent monetary values in USD as well.

8.     Separate the whole number and the fractional part by a decimal point (.) not by a comma (,) in all the tables and in the text.

9.     NPVs of the SFEs in Table 4 have two decimal points; please check the placement of the decimal point (.) in the values and keep only two digits after the decimal point (.).

10.  Please check whether the numbers can be represented using a comma (,) or a point (.) in Table 4 (Lines 187-188).

11.  Check the placement of the decimal point (.) in the values and keep only two digits after the decimal point (.) in Table 5 (Lines 334-336).

12.  In Table 7, the values of the sustainability indices (%) of SFEs should be given using a decimal point (.) instead of a comma (,) (Lines 452-453).

13.  Shift the placement of the policy recommendations from the result section to the conclusion section (Lines 509-512).

14.  Recommendations specified for strengthening the marketing of SFEs products given in the discussion section should be shifted to the conclusion section (Lines 531-540).

  1. All the corrections, modifications, additions, and deletions suggested in the manuscript in track mode should be incorporated.
