Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors

I have read Research on Control Strategy of APSO-Optimized Fuzzy-PID for Series Hybrid Tractor send to World Electric Vehicle Journal. The article is interesting. The subject is very interesting. I have some suggestions to consider before final publication. In the introduction, the Authors did not specify the purpose of the research. What is the utilitarian aspect of research.

Following points should be taken up carefully to further improve the paper:

1.     Motivation, problem statement, and the contribution of the paper to the present state of art is not very clear in the abstract. Try to highlight the problems associated with deflection of the high strength steel saddle plate. This induces the interest of the reader to go through the entire paper.

2.     An extension of my first point: What is novel about this paper? Is that technique never used on any other system before? If yes, then using this technique on a new system doesn’t make the technique novel. However, the novel part will still be there as it is applied to new system. But it should be extensively discussed in the Introduction the difference between the implementations.

3.     The build up of introduction can be improved by citing more related recent publications, and citing the problems associated with the state of art and how this paper is addressing the problem.

4.     Why do we need to cite very old reference like 2004?

The authors study a series diesel-electric hybrid tractor and propose a multi-operating point Fuzzy-PID control strategy aimed to achieve better fuel economy and improved control. To further improve the vehicle economy, the adaptive particle swarm optimization method is used to optimize the key parameters of the Fuzzy-PID controller. A co-simulation model in AVL-Cruise and Matlab/Simulink environment is developed for plowing mode and transportation mode. The simulation results show that under the two operation modes, the equivalent fuel consumption of the APSO-optimized multi-operating points Fuzzy-PID control strategy is reduced by 18.3% and 15.0% respectively compared to the engine single-operating point control strategy. Also, it was found to be reduced by 9.5% and 4.6% respectively compared to the MOPFPCS.

The following issues should be addressed in a revised version.

Better to start section numbering from number 1.

The innovative aspects of this work must be clearly stated at the end of the introduction section.

Lines 78-79: Is this based on an actual hybrid tractor? Please refer to similar design versions.

Figure 2: A diesel engine cannot operate higher than 5000 rpm! Please refer to a real diesel engine model for a 45 hp tractor.

Figure 2: please add units for bsfc.

Figure 16, 17, 18 increase font size in small subfigure.

Line 302: however, these are very slight differences, comparable to the engine and vehicle performance variability.

Since the results are just simulation results, we advise the authors to reduce improvement percentages to one decimal point.

English will need some improvement
