Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript focused primarily how biochar and calcium carbonate might interact when they are used together with cement as part of a carbon storage system. The benefits of a successful exploration of a biochar-calcium carbonate-cement composite would be considerable.

The research design is appropriate. The methodology is very well explained. The title of the paper reflects its content.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review and thoughtful comments on our paper. Per the feedback of other reviewers, we have revised the paper to include additional content and references. These were intended to deepen the review as requested and also to offer additional research directions.

Sincerely,
Dahl Winters

Reviewer 2 Report

Interesting work, but I have suggestions.

1. To the title should be added last sentence:

" Toward Carbon-Neutral Concrete through Biochar-Cement-
Calcium Carbonate Composites. Critical review."

2. Please, review more research papers and expand our knowledge on this topic. Please, enrich your work.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your thorough review of our paper. We have addressed your suggestions as follows:

1) The title has been edited to reflect its status as a critical review.

2) We have undertaken a more critical review of the literature surrounding our work to enrich the content of this paper. To appropriately expand our knowledge on this topic, the number of references have been more than doubled, from 40 to 99. Consequently, the total page length has increased from 8 to 27. The result is an expansion of our existing work into several sections supported by the additional references. We hope this will meet with your approval.

Your feedback was invaluable in prompting us to revise our paper in highly beneficial ways. We hope that this paper might be able to serve as a resource for further research into the development and use of carbon-neutral concrete.

Sincerely,

Dahl Winters
