Acoustic Emissions during Structural Changes in Shape Memory Alloys
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The paper is well written, it gives a valuable overview about the acoustic emission in shape memory alloys.
I recommend to revise the AE terminology according to ASTM E1316-05
(see e.g. http://www.muravin.com/AE/acoustic-emission-standard-terminology.html)
The authors use expressions as: "noise spectra, acoustic noise activities, AE noise events" ((e.g. lines 171, 199, 207) instead of AE spectra, AE activity, AE events, which is confusing. Please, correct this throughout the text.
In Chap. 6 it would be interesting to plot the evolution of the cumulative number of elements in the particular clusters with the temperature in order to see the variation of the underlying physical processes
Author Response
We corrected the text according to the recommended Acoustic Emission Standard Terminology, ASTM E1316-05.
We also carried out a spell check as suggested. In order to make clear what changes we made, we uploaded two versions: “manuscript Beke with corrections” (in which all changes are indicated by red) and “manuscript Beke final”, which is the final version.
Regarding the comment on the temperature dependence of the cumulative number of elements in the particular clusters, we added a new Fig. 22 illustrating this for cooling (obviously again, in accordance with the review character of this paper we refer to [55] for details).
We hope, that after the changes made our paper will be acceptable for publication.
Reviewer 2 Report
The authors summarise their researches on AE due to phase transitions in metals.
The recently introduced AE clustering method, which seems to be the most original part of the manuscript, unfortunately did not resolved the problem to provide clear explanation for the asymmetry, since the exponents of the main clusters were still different for cooling and heating.
It is suggested that the authors emphasise better the original contribution in the manuscript, or that they present their work in the form of a review.
Author Response
In order to emphasize that we indeed wrote a review (see also our choice for the type of paper: “review”) we made a change in the text in the first paragraph on page 19.
We also carried out a spell check as suggested. In order to make clear what changes we made, we uploaded two versions: “manuscript Beke with corrections” (in which all changes are indicated by red) and “manuscript Beke final”, which is the final version.
We hope, that after the changes made our paper will be acceptable for publication.
