The study is well written and of very high interest.

I suggest to shorten the discussion and the section about study limitations.

In Line 200: You state that in Europe there are two mcr alleles detected, nevertheless in Figure 3 100% mcr-1 are shown.

Please strenghten already in the results that the study design is not appropriate for determining prevalence (since this highly depends on reporting).

Could you report on potential spread between continents? Is that possible from analysing mcr alleles? Or would you assume homoplasy events?
