Pentacoordinated Liquid Crystalline Zn(II) Complex Organized in Smectic Mesophase: Synthesis, Structural and Electrochemical Properties
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
1. A scale bar should be added to Figure 1A.
2. The authors have not only investigated the electrochemical behavior of Zn_tpy, but also included the characterization of many physical properties. Therefore, I think the authors should make a reasonable revision of the title.
3. The authors say that the investigation of the electrochemical behavior of Zn_tpy can be used for potential sensing. However, based on the behavior of the electrochemistry of Zn_tpy, I do not feel that it has such application potential.
4. On what application basis did the authors base their choice of electrolyte?
5. Based on the CV results I can see that Zn_tpy can be stable in the scan window. What is the reason for this? Does the previous characterization of the non-electrochemical properties provide a clue?

Reviewer 2 Report
The manuscript reports synthesis and characterization of one novel metallomesogen based on a pentacoordinated Zn(II) metal center. The electrochemical behaviour of the amphiphilic complex Zn_tpy as modifier of GC electrode was studied in comparison with its precursor Zn_p. These results are interesting, which merits acceptance by this journal after considering the following possible revisions.
1) The yields for each compound should be provided in the synthesis.
2) please give a high-resolution picture for Scheme 1.
3) The properties of Zn_tpy should be compared with other derivatives like Zn_1,2,3,4
