Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,
thank you for the valuable research findings.

The significance of the presented content is high, although GPU parallelization is already available in commercial DEM codes and therefore not competely new.

Please consider reading my comments in the attached PDF.
I am glad if my notes are helpful for you.

Reviewer 2 Report

The reviewer thinks that the authors present a good research work to improve the DEM computation more efficiently. Some minor revisions are suggested as follows,

  1. As mentioned in the abstract and conclusion, the most important contribution of this research is to establish the contact pair list with a hybrid technique. However, in Section 2.2, the term “hybrid technique” was not introduced clearly. So, please make it clear in the text what the hybrid technique is.
  2. A flowchart about the parallel framework can be added, so that the readers can understand it easily and quickly.
  3. Similarly, some figures can be added to illustrate (1) GPU parallelization of “Calculate contact forces” (Section 2.3) and (2) GPU parallelization of “Update kinematic state of particles” (section 2.4), to help the readers understand them.
  4. Figure 4(b). The colorful legend belongs to Figure 4(a) was added here mistakenly, please remove it.
