Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Similar work has been done by other researchers. the topic is not very original.

References are very old, which means the work has not considered the recent advances in the field.

There are no experiments to prove the oxidation resistance. Samples have been characterized only using XRD, SEM and EDS. Few characterizations related to the application also need to be done.

Reviewer 2 Report

The present work presents the main features of the effect of Al2O3 content on high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti3SiC2/Al2O3.  Overall, the scientific quality of the submitted manuscript is fine. The discussions based on the experimental results are sound. However, several concerns are proposed herein for revision.

1.     In the introduction, considered in the work aluminum oxide has a tremendous value and many applications also in fusion technology (

Popov A.I., et al. Comparison of the F-type center thermal annealing in heavy-ion and neutron irradiated Al2O3 single crystals. (2018) Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section B, 2018, 433, pp. 93-97.

Averback, R.S.; et al. Defects in ion implanted and electron irradiated MgO and Al2O3Radiat. Eff. Defects Solids 1995136, 169–173).

Its optical and electrical performance at high temperatures is extremely important also for nuclear technology. Therefore, more information about the Al2O3 oxide is needed for a wider readership.

2.     Line 42.  Here, it is also important go give more new information about all mentioned ceramics.

3.     The data in Figures 1, 2 and 3 are very interesting and meaningful, but besides XRD, Raman and luminescence would be very useful, especially because of their higher sensitivity.

4.     Are the structural point defects (anion and cation vacancies) formed and at what temperatures destroyed?  Is it possible to see them at least indirect manifestations in the SEM pictures?   One of the last information of point defects in Al2O3 can be found in:

Shablonin, E., et al. Thermal annealing and transformation of dimer F centers in neutron-irradiated Al2O3 single crystals. Journal of Nuclear Materials2021, 543, p.152600.

5.     The list of references can be expanded by adding more recent articles. This will more clearly show the relevance of this work.

Reviewer 3 Report

Very interesting scientific work and detailed investigation.

I recommend to publish the paper in the journal.

Please consider the following points:

Introduction muss be improved by discussing other paper in detail (at all please only 2 or 3 sentences, since the paper is god structures)

·         The effect of different precipitation types in discussed by Heider et al. (2020) “Influence of heated forming tools on corrosion behavior of high strength aluminum alloy” (https://doi.org/10.1002/mawe.202000125) -  it is recommended to discuss very briefly the paper.

Reviewer 1 Report

Nothing is mentioned about optimizing he thickness of Al2O3, which can impact the properties as well as the cost
