Application of Functional and Edible Coatings and Films as Promising Strategies for Developing Dairy Functional Products—A Review on Yoghurt Case
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Dear Authors,
The article submitted by Salama et al is a deep study about application of functional and edible coatings and films in yogurt. The review article is relevant for the industry because is valuable source of current knowledge. The authors make reference to many relevant references. Therefore, I recommend this article to be published in Coatings Journal with MINOR REVISION.
I have minor reservations about the level of language, it needs improvement at times. Likewise with punctuation (especially commas used unjustifiably or lack thereof) the length of some sentences. Some of them need shortening, rewriting at times, the content is interesting but not very reader-friendly. The authors sometimes use colloquial language when they should obviously use formal scientific style. The article in its entirety should be proofread by a native speaker.
Some other comments to improve the manuscript:
Line 29 - Why are you excluding men? After all, the issues of probiotic properties of yogurt also apply to men. Please reword
Lines 43-46 – please reword
Line 88 – please reword
Line 90 – fat-loving substances? Not a scientific term, please reword
Figure 1 - Do the authors have permission to use the drawing? Are they not violating copyright laws?
Lines 106-115 – sentence too long, please reword, don’t use this many bullet points and semicolons, just interconnect the sentences neatly
Line 127 – please reword
Line 141- The gums mentioned previously
Line 146-149 – please reword
Line 154-158 - please reword
Line161-162 - please reword
Line 172 – “As a nutrition-conscious demanding people selectively consume functional foods and supplements” - this sentence should be continued or neatly connected to the next one, nothing follows from it at the moment
Line 176 and onward – please reword the sentence
Line 191 – just one coconut flour particle??? Please go plural
Line 211-216 – sentence too long
Line 236 – sentence not complete, something is missing here
Line 264-270 – sentence too long
Line 270-272- this sentence does not belong here
Line 287 - the logical sequence of sentences, how does this sentence connect to the previous one?
Line 288 – Researchers have also been exploited
Line 296-299 - this is one very word heavy sentence
Line 328-333- sentence too long
Line 333- Please do not start a sentence with “so”
Line 346-348 – please reword
Line 371-372 - please reword
Line 391-393 - the same phrases are repeated in the sentence (aka impairment, issues), please use variations/ synonyms
Line 407-411- the same phrases are repeated in the sentence (aka eating yogurt), please use variations/ synonyms
Line 420 – yoghurt or yogurt, of course both versions are correct, just choose one and be consistent throughout the entire paper
Line 430 – Filho et al. studied the efficacy or Filho et al. evaluated the efficacy
Line 433-439 - sentence too long
Line 411 – the best one – not a scientific language
Line 465 – recipients?
Line 467 – please reword
Line 481-483- these two sentences contain almost identical content, there is no point in repeating them
Line 483 -Researchers are researching - completely tautological statement – please reword

Good luck with corrections:)

Title: Application of Functional and Edible Coatings and Films as Promising Strategies for Developing Dairy Functional Products - A Review on Yogurt Case
Dear Editor MDPI,
In the manuscript “Application of Functional and Edible Coatings and Films as Promising Strategies for Developing Dairy Functional Products - A Review on Yogurt Case”. This review could be improved to get a well-presented version. The relevant information should be added more to support this review on the application of functional and edible coatings and films as promising strategies for developing dairy functional products. I have some major remarks:
- Figure 1 should be improved on the edge of the right side.
- Abstract: Line 25: Please change gum Arabic to gum Arabic.
- Page 4, Line 152: Please check the abbreviation of thermophilus and Lb.
bulgaricus or S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus.
- Introduction, could add more relevant information.
- It would be better to add more relevant information on the topic "Effect of Yogurt
Manufacture Technology on Health": for example Yogurt for other diseases.
- In addition, the conclusion could be expanded.
- It would be better to add more references to support or confirm this study.
- The pattern of the references should be resolved. I suggest checking the cited references and pattern of the references carefully throughout the paper.

Reviewer 3 Report
The review Application of functional and edible coatings and films as promising strategies for developing dairy functional products - a review on yogurt case is suitable for publication in the journal Coatings due to the relevance of using nanotechnology in the dairy and food industries to create functional products.
The manuscript may be accepted for publication by Coatings after the following comments have been addressed.
Section 3.2. Materials used in the manufacture of yogurt should be expanded to indicate which starters, stabilizers, sweeteners, and preservatives are used.
Section 3.3. Yogurt production. It is necessary to clarify what other additives are added to yogurt during its preparation, in addition to PUFA and fiber.
In addition to health benefits, can the components contained in yogurt (preservatives, stabilizers, colors) reduce the effectiveness of probiotic bacteria and have a negative impact on human health.
