- JSB and JBSJ individually searched for repetitive trends in the data using field notes made during the interviews and multiple read-throughs of the transcripts. These trends were compared, discussed, and condensed into five overall themes.
- JSB and JBSJ identified meaning units by employing systematic open coding of text fragments using NVIVO 10 (QSR International Pty Ltd., Doncaster, Australia) to assist the organisation of codes (see Table 2).
- JSB and JBSJ operationalized the final themes and reconsidered the structure through examination of repetitions and overlaps, followed by rearranging and erasing until the final themes were formed.
