Special Issue Information
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) now play a key role in almost every field, with human health and healthcare being no exception. AI has become an essential catalyst for healthcare reform. This is because it improves the efficiency and effectiveness of solving human health and medical problems, assists healthcare professionals in solving complex medical problems, and complements human capabilities. By utilizing advanced algorithms and the vast amounts of data generated in practice, AI and ML are rapidly adapting to new information and changing conditions to improve the quality of healthcare and promote human health in various ways.
The aim of this Special Issue is to gather research results from various disciplines in order to shed light on the cutting-edge applications of AI and ML and other methods in healthcare. This Special Issue calls on researchers and experts to submit their original research, reviews, and provoking perspectives that demonstrate the new uses and potential of AI and computing in healthcare.
The articles collected in this Special Issue will cover a broad spectrum of topics, including, but not limited to:
(1) In bioinformatics, using AI to optimize diagnostic procedures, drug management, disease prevention, and early diagnosis for personalized and precision medicine.
(2) Digital healthcare based on AI, such as risk identification, online healthcare, telemedicine, personalized healthcare training, and various advanced healthcare systems;
(3) The role of AI in enhancing emergency care and critical care;
(4) The role of AI in medical image processing;
(5) Specific practices to advance drug discovery through pre-assessment and intelligent screening;
(6) Intelligent medical robots for assisted diagnosis and disease treatment, such as rehabilitation robots and nursing robots;
(7) Interactive intelligent virtual assistants;
(8) The role of AI in public health: from disease surveillance, epidemic prediction, and health system optimization to personalized health interventions;
(9) Various types of advanced intelligent medical devices spawned by the development of AI technologies, such as intelligent surgical devices and intelligent monitoring devices.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
