Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electric motors are undoubtedly the key module in drive systems covering a wide range of modern industrial applications such as electric vehicles, elevators, UAVs and ships. Their research development is particularly focused on optimal design and energy-saving potential by achieving the best possible performance. In these cases, the main role is played by power electronics, where with the evolution of semiconductor elements and new control techniques, motor driving is carried out with high precision, minimizing the possible losses of harmonic phenomena due to the inverter. In addition, it is worth noting that their continuous operation and their stress under extreme operating conditions poses a significant risk, disturbing the smooth operation compromising the production process. The current field of research concerns their continuous monitoring and the investigation of various techniques in order to minimize the possibility of unexpected consequences. In order to minimize maintenance costs and achieve optimal service, predictive maintenance is essential to accurately estimate the severity of a possible failure in the future. The integration of smart sensors, the internet of things, the use of machine learning and algorithms for data processing are key models for achieving operationally efficient and reliable systems.

We are pleased to invite you to participance in our Special Issue, which will focus on the latest developments and innovations in the field of electric motors. Your contribution of an article or review will be a valuable addition to our efforts to provide our readers with a Special Issue of high quality and scientific value.

This Special Issue aims to highlight research developments in key aspects such as (i) the optimal design of electric motors in industrial applications, (ii) energy savings and efficiency, (iii) power electronics, (iv) control of electric machines, (v) techniques for continuous monitoring of the operating state of electric motors, (vi) the collection and processing of large volumes of data in real and continuous time using IoT, (vii) smart sensor placement and (viii) fault diagnosis using artificial intelligent and genetic algorithms.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied System Innovation is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
