Dear Colleagues,
Biomaterials refer to substances designed to interact with biological tissues or fluids, serving critical roles in therapeutic and diagnostic contexts. The discipline of biomaterial science is inherently multidisciplinary, integrating insights from material science, chemistry, biology, biophysics, biomechanics, pharmaceutical sciences, tissue engineering, and medicine to devise innovative strategies for the treatment, repair, or replacement of diseased tissues and organs.
These materials serve as the foundation for a wide array of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, playing a critical role in drug delivery systems, ranging from drug-eluting contact lenses to advanced nanocarriers, and are essential in the field of tissue engineering. Recent advancements in this area have focused on enhancing the biomimetic characteristics of engineered tissue constructs and biomedical devices, facilitating more effective therapeutic outcomes.
This Special Issue on biological materials and bioinspired designs in Biomimetics entitled “Innovations in Biomimetic Materials and Biomedical Devices: Bridging Science and Application" seeks to compile original research articles and comprehensive reviews on the following topics:
- Three-dimensional bioprinting of organs and tissue constructs;
- Development of smart devices within the biomedical arena;
- Innovations in drug delivery systems and routes of administration;
- Four-dimensional bioprinting techniques for the fabrication of intelligent organs, tissues, and devices;
- Application of nanotechnology in drug delivery systems;
- Design of stimuli-responsive materials and novel chemistries in biomedical applications.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
