Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Allergic rhinitis is a globally prevalent chronic inflammatory disorder that significantly impacts quality of life. Despite its prevalence, there remains a considerable gap in our understanding of its complete pathophysiology, as well as effective management strategies and avenues for their advancement. With approximately 10–30% of the global population affected by allergic rhinitis, there is a pressing need to address the unmet challenges associated with this condition.

This Special Issue, titled "Advancements in Understanding, Diagnosing and Treating Allergic Rhinitis: Current and Future Directions", aims to present the latest research on various aspects of allergic rhinitis. While much progress has been made in this field, it continues to evolve, and there are several critical questions that must be explored.

Topics of Interest:

Epidemiology and Burden: We welcome contributions that provide comprehensive estimates of the global and regional burden of allergic rhinitis. This includes prevalence rates, risk factors, and the socioeconomic impacts of the condition.

Pathophysiology and Mechanisms: We encourage authors to submit manuscripts discussing the intricate mechanisms underlying allergic rhinitis, including immunological responses, its molecular pathways, and its interactions with other allergic conditions.

Diagnostic Approaches: We welcome studies exploring novel diagnostic tools, advancements in allergen-specific testing, component-resolved diagnostics, and the potential role of ‘omics’ technologies in refining diagnostic accuracy.

Biomarkers and Personalized Management: We seek contributions that discuss the identification and validation of biomarkers for allergic rhinitis, with the aim of more effectively tailoring treatments and predicting disease progression.

Impact of Coexisting Conditions: We encourage the submission of manuscripts examining the intricate relationship between allergic rhinitis and other conditions such as asthma, eczema, and sinusitis, along with potential shared management strategies.

Differential Diagnosis of Allergic Rhinitis: We welcome papers that discuss the differential diagnosis of allergic rhinitis, including drug-induced rhinitis and rhinitis medicamentosa, occupational rhinitis and chemical rhinitis, infectious rhinitis, hormonally induced rhinitis, non-allergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome, vasomotor rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis, autoimmune rhinitis, granulomatous rhinitis, and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without polyposis.

Environmental Influences: We are interested in articles focusing on the impact of environmental factors, such as climate change, air pollution, and indoor allergens, on the prevalence and severity of allergic rhinitis.

Telemedicine and Digital Health: In light of recent technological advancements, we welcome research exploring the roles of telemedicine, digital health tools, and mobile applications in enhancing patient management and adherence.

Patient-Centered Outcomes: Contributions shedding light on patient-reported outcomes, quality of life improvements, and patient education strategies are highly valuable.

Future Directions and Research Gaps: Discussions on the current research gaps, challenges, and potential avenues for future studies are essential to achieving more effective management strategies.

Submission Information:

We welcome a range of article types, including original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and perspectives. Please note that case reports will not be considered for this Special Issue.

All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review. By contributing to this Special Issue, you will assist in improving our understanding and the management of allergic rhinitis, as well as reducing its global burden.
