Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to take part in the educational challenge in which we find ourselves, shaping the learning of the future. To do so, we must know and interpret the advantages and disadvantages that the incorporation of technologies is having in learning contexts. We cannot forget that it is very important to continue identifying and working on the development of new educational practices that will help us to solve the challenge we face as education professionals. The digital transformation (DT) has caused interaction and learning processes to change substantially, in terms of new learning environments, new research keys, learning for all, and artificial intelligence, which support the development of training processes, with some key areas making contributions on the new digital ecosystems and their impact, including an open, adaptive, and distributed socio-technical system with properties of self-organisation, scalability and sustainability inspired by natural ecosystems. Connected digital ecosystems are needed to build connections, drive transformation, and improve student outcomes. We have been working together on participation architecture for decades, and as is the aim of this work, we want to contribute to the construction of new content and be active agents in the design and development processes.

This Special Issue will offer an updated description of the effects of the learning environment on sustainable organisations and institutions, examine new intelligent learning, present ideas that invite the understanding of the moment we are immersed in, reflect, bring new approaches, and make new learning scenarios visible. The articles in this work will be committed to scientific rigour, the innovation processes carried out, and providing an accurate account of the current climate in the existing literature.

This Special Issue will focus on (but not be limited to) the following topics:

  • Universal learning design;
  • New intelligent learning systems;
  • Digital ecosystems;
  • Architecture of participation;
  • Intelligent classrooms;
  • Innovative learning space;
  • Artificial intelligence;
  • Teacher training;
  • Digital competence.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Education Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
