Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Vehicle to everything, or V2X, networks have made it possible for automobiles to connect with both one another and the infrastructure. These networks make use of DSRC, WiFi, and cellular networks, among other communication technologies. With the emergence of 5G cellular networks, compared to cellular technology from prior generations, consumers can now have faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved connection. The combination of 5G networks with vehicular communication systems has the potential to increase safety, ease traffic, and enhance the driving experience as a whole. The application areas are numerous and can be found in various fields such as, healthcare, transportation, smart cities, entertainment, etc. To fully realize the potential of vehicle networks and communication technologies in the 5G era, there are a number of issues that must be resolved. Keeping communication networks secure and reliable is one of the toughest problems. Cyberattacks are more likely to occur as more automobiles link to the Internet, endangering the security and privacy of drivers and passengers. Standardized protocols and rules are also required to guarantee compatibility across various vehicles and communication systems. The development and implementation of vehicle network and communication technology must also be in line with privacy and security issues, which calls for cooperation between automakers, network operators, and regulatory agencies.

The aim of this Special Issue is to solicit high-quality original research papers that address the new challenges and opportunities emerging from Vehicle Networks and Communication Technologies in the 5G era. We invite original submissions that cover the following aspects of these technologies, topics including but not limited to:

  • Novel approaches for design, planning, and control to ensure ultra-reliable and resilient services over 5G-enabled vehicular networks.
  • Novel methodologies and paradigms for AI-enabled 5G and vehicular networks.
  • Security and privacy in 5G-enabled vehicular network applications.
  • Trust management schemes for 5G-enabled-based vehicular networks.
  • Role of blockchains in the realization of efficient 5G-enabled vehicular networks.
  • Efficient routing protocols for enabled vehicular networks applications.
  • Efficient content dissemination schemes over 5G-enabled vehicular networks.
  • Energy efficiency and quality-of-service support within 5G-enabled-based vehicular networks.
  • Integrating Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications within 5G-enabled-based vehicular networks.
  • Experimental results and experimentation platforms for 5G and vehicular networks

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
