Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In the current context of continuous climatic change, abiotic stresses—especially drought and salinity stress—pose significant threats to both agricultural crop production and plant biodiversity. The need to improve staple crops, develop new crops, and to investigate new agricultural systems is clear.
This Special Issue invites contributions focused on the evaluation of crop genetic diversity (and associated trait diversity), with a focus on utilizing the available diversity in crop improvement programmes to improve existing germplasm resources by means of innovative molecular breeding and conventional breeding. Topics include—but are not limited to—the following:
- Gene identification;
- Plant breeding;
- Salinity;
- Drought.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Genes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
