The Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM, ISSN: 2077-0383) held an Editorial Board meeting for the Section “Sports Medicine” on 27 March 2024. We appreciate the Section Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Naama W. Constantini, for hosting this meeting, with two Editorial Board Members in attendance. We would like to invite everyone to jointly review the content of the meeting at that time. We are extremely grateful for the strong support from the Editorial Board Members. We are actively promoting the construction of the Section and expanding the number of Editorial Board Members.

The meeting started with a presentation on the development of the journal, as well as the Section “Sports Medicine” in particular, and the following information was presented:

  • The journal’s history, open access policy, and author benefits;
  • Journal publication statistics and authors group analysis (2019–2023);
  • Journal awards, conference sponsorships, and journal social media management;
  • Section EBM overview, decision-making statistics, and section development statistics.

At this Editorial Board meeting, the following details were covered in the discussion:

  • Regarding reviewers: we have reached a consensus to keep inviting outstanding and highly proficient professionals as reviewers; they are capable of providing valuable suggestions, which can effectively improve the quality of the papers;
  • Upgrading the peer review interface: the Editorial Board Members proposed some possible ideas for the improvement of the editorial process, enabling reviewers and Academic Editors to convey their suggestions with enhanced flexibility;
  • Section topics and organization: the Editorial Board Members pointed out that mental health in sports medicine is a hot topic that could be suitable for a new Special Issue; we will actively organize and create a relevant Special Issue and welcome submissions on related topics; they are satisfied with the current departmental organization and are willing to assist in identifying new EBM candidates when needed; EBMs also agreed and supported holding an exchange meeting every six months.

We sincerely express our gratitude to all the Editorial Board Members who participated in this meeting. They provided positive suggestions regarding our reviewer and peer review system and recommended popular topics. Looking ahead, we anticipate attracting outstanding senior reviewers and authors and publishing high-quality articles with our manuscript-handling services. We look forward to having more Editorial Board Members attend future meetings and offer their valuable advice to the journal in the future. We are convinced that our collective efforts will enable the “Sports Medicine” Section to thrive.
