Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Marine biological resources constitute a rich source of diverse functional and bioactive compounds, including proteins (peptides), polyunsaturated lipids, polysaccharides, and saponins. It is noteworthy that these bioactive substances are also present in the by-products generated during processing, and some of them exhibit notably higher concentrations within these by-products. However, these by-products often remain overlooked or inadequately utilized. Their recycling not only reduces waste but also offers significant economic and environmental benefits.
This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring the following key aspects:
1) Resource Identification and Analysis:
Employing chromatography–mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and other cutting-edge analytical techniques to systematically examine various marine by-products, identify potential high-value-added resources, and establish a foundation for subsequent research.
2) Extraction Process Optimization:
Utilizing the response surface method, genetic algorithms, and other experimental designs to refine the extraction processes of high-value-added resources and investigate novel extraction technologies, assessing their feasibility and advantages in marine by-product resource recovery.
3) Biological Activity Evaluation:
Conducting biological activity tests on high-value-added resources extracted from marine by-products to assess their potential medicinal value, unveil the mechanisms of action of bioactive components, and explore the synergistic effects and interactions of these components with other drugs or nutrients.
4) Structure–Function Relationship Elucidation:
Applying modern analytical methods to investigate the structural features of high-value-added resources and analyzing the intrinsic relationship between their biological activities and structural attributes.
5) Sustainable Use Assessment:
Evaluating the environmental impacts and economic benefits associated with the recycling of marine by-product resources, considering the perspective of resource sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Marine Drugs is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
