Dear Colleagues,
Marine environments are diverse, including seawater, sediment, hydrothermal vents, deep sea with high pressure and low temperature, polar sea with extremely low temperature, etc. Numerous organisms live in various marine environments. Enzymes produced by marine organisms help their producers well adapt to various marine environments. Marine enzymes themselves also have characteristics adapted to various marine environments, such as salt tolerance, hyperthermostability, barophilicity, cold adaptivity, and so on. Marine enzymes not only exert essential physiological function in marine organisms but also play significant ecological roles in marine ecosystems, such as organic matter degradation and element cycling. In addition, marine enzymes likely have good biotechnological and industrial applications as biocatalysts due to their special characteristics. This Special Issue focuses on advances in various enzymes from marine organisms and marine environments, covering enzyme diversity, characteristics, structure, catalytic mechanism, function, biomedical application, etc.
