Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Currently, several epidemiological studies have identified alcohol consumption as a modifiable factor that influences, positively and negatively, several diseases. Consistent epidemiological evidence has pointed out that heavy or binge alcohol consumption is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality. Nevertheless, there is large body of scientific evidence that moderate alcohol consumption might be salutary. Whether benefits observed are due to the direct action of alcohol itself or caused by components present in alcoholic beverages such as polyphenols remains unclear. Moderate consumption of wine and beer, which are rich in polyphenols, seems to confer cardiovascular protective effects in healthy subjects and even in patients with reported CVD, whilst there is low scientific evidence concerning its protective effect for neurocognitive diseases. Several observational and interventional trials have shown the inverse association between moderate alcohol consumption and inflammatory markers, lipid profile, glucose metabolism, endothelial function and blood pressure, among others. This Special Issue will include original research articles as well as review articles addressing various aspects of the impact of alcohol on health.
Based on your expertise in this field, we think you could make an excellent contribution of either evidence-based original research or a review of relevant scientific literature.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs).
