Dear Colleagues,
Mucosal drug delivery is a rapidly evolving field, offering innovative approaches for both local and systemic drug administration. This method leverages the body's mucosal surfaces, such as those found in the oral, nasal, and gastrointestinal tracts, to enhance drug absorption and bioavailability. The mucosal route has the potential to improve patient compliance through non-invasive administration and can be particularly beneficial for drugs with poor bioavailability when taken orally.
The mucosal delivery system allows for targeted drug delivery to specific regions of the body, reducing systemic side effects and enhancing therapeutic efficacy. This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring novel approaches and formulations in mucosal drug delivery, encompassing topics such as advanced drug delivery systems, biomaterials for mucoadhesion, and the latest in nanotechnology for enhanced drug permeation.
We are excited to bring together a collection of articles that will showcase the cutting-edge research and development in this dynamic area. We welcome submissions of original research articles and review articles that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in mucosal drug delivery.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
