Dear Colleagues,
The field of materials science has experienced a rapid growth in the awareness of the fascinating possibilities offered by hybrid organic–inorganic materials. A hybrid functional material is a material that has both inorganic and organic components; hybrid materials have been considered ideal platforms for applications in optics, microelectronics, transportation, health, energy, energy storage, diagnosis, housing, environment etc. Hybrid materials can be modified on the molecular level to make smart materials by tuning their compositions. It is possible to tailor complex hybrid systems of various shapes by combining cross-cutting approaches that can synergistically combine molecular engineering and processing. This enables ultimate control over the size, composition, functionality, and morphology of the hybrid systems.
The focus of this Special Issue is on recent advances in organic–inorganic hybrid materials—their design, synthesis, and structural characteristics, as well as their modern practical applications. In this Issue, authors are encouraged to submit original research and review articles on a wide range of topics, from macromolecular designs to synthesis, self-assembly, mechanisms, and applications of these hybrid materials.
Therefore, this Special Issue offers a valuable opportunity to collect some of the most relevant studies, enabling us to provide a comprehensive picture of the most significant efforts in science and technology to develop the best-performing materials for applications that will soon be available.
This Special Issue, "Application and Characterization of Polymer–Inorganic Hybrid Materials", will include work on the synthesis, characterization, and application of possibly novel promising polymer–inorganic hybrid materials.
Potential topics of the submitted manuscripts include but are not limited to the following topics:
- Development, synthesis, and characterization of new organic–inorganic hybrid polymeric materials;
- Biopolymer-based hybrid materials;
- Hydrogel nanocomposites: synthesis, characterization and application;
- Incorporation of different inorganic substances in the polymeric matrix, such as metal oxides/sulfide/phosphide, and graphene;
- Nanofiller/natural-fiber-filled polymer hybrid composites;
- Multifunctional polymer materials;
- Studying the potential applications of organic–inorganic hybrid polymers.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
