Dear Colleagues,
Since the advent of the glucose biosensor around the mid-eighties, phenomenal growth in the development of biosensor devices has evolved with applications in a wide range of disciplines, including health care, food safety and environmental diagnostics. This has been as a result of the increase in demand to develop rapid diagnostic for point- of- care testing and also to comply with environmental legislations and food safety and quality standards. With the emerging field of nanotechnology, novel nanomaterial’s and micro/nano transducer devices have been introduced to the biosensor and diagnostics arena and applied to develop advanced highly sensitive and specific sensor platforms suitable for multiplex biomarker analysis. To date the sensor technology is progressing rapidly with new and novel bio-recognition nanomaterials are being synthesized and used as the sensing surfaces.
The special issue of Sensors seeks to address the role of nanomaterials and the emerging synthetic receptors in biosensor fabrication as diagnostics tools. Hence, review articles and original research papers are sought that can demonstrate enhanced sensing capability when these materials are applied in the fabrication of new sensors.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
