Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Smart cities offer a significant chance to save energy use while fulfilling service demand, enhancing the electrical energy grid stability, and raising the human quality of life. The management of smart city services can be improved through the use of emerging technologies in next-generation energy systems. Through the development of new synergies to lower emissions, increase energy efficiency, and strengthen resilience, these solutions are altering the energy landscape. Our planet and our natural resources will be preserved by the trend toward a massive and quick escalation in new technologies to foster environments that enable efficient appliances. This will be accomplished through the implementation of sustainable and economic growth that ensures the preservation and mindful consumption of energy assets.

Speaking specifically about lighting, energy-efficient lighting systems, and energy usage in homes, offices, and city streets is an important part of today's tone. In this way, lighting accounts for around 6% of all greenhouse gas emissions and about 19% of all electrical energy used globally. To achieve the desired reductions in energy efficiency for the Europe 2020 horizon and the low-carbon economy by 2050, the power consumption from cities must be extended to also include street lighting. This SI aims to provide an overview of the idea of sustainable development of smart cities through energy-efficient and smart lighting strategies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
