Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The urgent need for energy conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector has been recognised at the highest levels of governments around the world, and has led to the introduction of various strategies to deliver higher-performance buildings. However, in most cases, buildings do not perform operationally at the intended level and consume as much as three times the predicted energy consumption. This mismatch between the design and reality of energy performance is known as the building energy performance gap (BEPG). The presence of performance gap will have significant consequence on the energy and emission reduction target from building sector.
In this context, this Special Issue aims to propose a collection of worthy studies that deal with:
- Factors that contributes to the energy performance gap during the building lifecycle.
- Impact of the building energy performance gap on the economy and environment.
- Strategies that can be undertaken during the life cycle to overcome the performance gap.
- The role of digital technologies such as building information modelling to overcome the performance gap.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
