The review paper entitled "Long-term efficacy of intranasal Esketamine in Treatment-Resistant Major Depression: a systematic review" is a comprehensive summary of the latest research in the use and effect of intranasal Esketamine to treat MD in cases of antidepressant resistance. The paper is a well-timed study since it emphasizes the use of esketamine in some key studies on human patients and highlights the high variability in biases and the ongoing search of a shared, internationally accepted protocol and dose of administration.
Although it is difficult from the available literature data to trace the optimal way of treatment for the future, authors are very objective and point out the efficacy of adjunctive intranasal ESK in the long-term suggesting positive outcome for the continuation of nasal ESK and showing honest criticism for the long-term antidepressant effect of ESK upon discontinuation.
