Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors,

The subject matter is part of the research stream in the field of sociohydrology. In the context of research on the impact of water availability on the development of agriculture, this is a particularly valuable approach.

In the introduction in the context of the relationship of the ecosystem with society, one should refer to sociohydrology (https://doi.org/10.1002/hyp.8426, https://doi.org/10.3390/w12071941, https://doi.org/10.3390/en15207770).

Table 1. Chrysanthemum is not the same as Stevia in English.

Figure 1. Does the study area cover the whole of Linze or only the oasis in Linze?

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors investigated regime change of oases in the Heihe basin, northwestern China. They found that improved economic benefits can promote water-saving effect, thereby facilitate sustainable development of the oases. The paper is well-organized and clearly written. I have a few minor comments. The study could be a great contribution to the journal of Sustainability.

3.2.3: What caused the water productivity fluctuating during 2006 to 2020 as shown in Figure 5?

Discussion: If there is only one sub-section of discussion, the 4.1 division is not needed.
