Research on the Potential of Forestry’s Carbon-Neutral Contribution in China from 2021 to 2060
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The potential of forestry carbon-neutral contribution in China was analyzed using backpropagation neural networks, biomass conversion factor method and logistic models. The results are useful to understand the situations of carbon emission, and carbon sequestration by forest, and are important to make rational policy for forest management related to carbon sequestration. However, there are many presentation problems in this manuscript, it should be greatly improved before publication.
- Page 2, change “Aboveground biomass density” to “Aboveground biomass density”.
- I understand the meaning, but please use proper presentation for MATLAB 2016b.
- Please clearly explain every element in Equation (2), (3), (7), such as E, F etc.
- Improve all Figures, all of them are difficult to see.

Dear Authors,
Thank you for your paper!
Some comments of mine:
- Where is line numbering? I prefer to use it. It is easier to give comments to the Authors.
- Introduction: It is quite short. I am waiting for some background figures. For instance, the current forest areas in China (in million hectares), the current CO2 emissions in Chine, and the current forest carbon storage
- M&M, page 3, C is the carbon conversion coefficient, which is taken as 0.5 in this paper. / Do you have some reference report?
- Figures 1: The quality of drawings in not good. Is it possible to improve them?
- Table 2. Age... / I propose to write: Table 2. Age (in years)... / Now no information on unit used.
- Page 7. Several names of tree species. / Add also latin names to these tree species.
- Table 3. Where are units used?
- Figure 3. More high quality (better resolution) picture is needed. // same issue with Fig. 4. as well as Fig. 5. + Fig. 6. + Fig. 7.
- Page 12, top of pages. Very high correlations. Could you please explain why so high correlations? Related to sampling/validation data?
- Table 8. MT, what unit? Mt? What are SSP1....SSP5. Does the reader know them?
- Page 16, According to the China Demographic Yearbook. I propose to add reference to Reference List.
- Conclusions. I hope rewriting this section; now very short.
- Reference List. I tested to open some reference link, but unfortunately not so good success, for example with Ref. 7 (Bad gateway with link) and Ref. 10 (Not found link). Please check your link used.

Reviewer 3 Report
In this study, authors have tried to predict the carbon sequestration that occurs due to afforestation and forest tending. In addition, the implementation strategies of carbon-neutral pathways in forestry were discussed in detail. The study has been performed and discussed in detail. I would like to recommend minor changes to the manuscript. Find the comments below
- Authors are requested to check for suffix and prefix details throughout the manuscript – eg 7th should 7th
- The equations mentioned in the manuscript should be properly aligned. Check throughout the manuscript and make the necessary changes
- adjustment coefficient of determination should be adjusted coefficient of determination and (AR2) should be (Adj R2)
- Authors have to cite the equations source in the manuscript
- Figures resolution is very low. Authors are requested to increase the figure resolution. Follow the journal guideline. Minimum of 600 dpi is necessary.
- Authors are requested to check for grammatical errors and sentence making. Divide long sentences into short one for proper understanding.
- It is suggested that authors rewrite the conclusion that present the significance of the current study. The current conclusion is the summarization of the study but does not present the significance of the study.
