Optimal Estimation Inversion of Ionospheric Electron Density from GNSS-POD Limb Measurements: Part I-Algorithm and Morphology
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
1. line 19: "The slant total electron content" is commonly abbreviated as STEC. Here hTEC represents the LOS between the GNSS and the LEO
2. Some figures lack the necessary legends, such as Fig. 6, Fig. 7, Fig. 8
3. The unit of Ne in the figures should be "el/m3" instead of "m-3"
4. The range of the colorbar shown in Fig.10 is excessively large and unreasonable
5. Is it possible to control the colorbar range of Fig.12, 13, 14 to achieve a comparison of different altitudes?
6. Although Spire detects global Ne, significant changes in Ne tend to occur at low and mid-latitudes. COSMIC-2 provides richer observations in these regions. Can you explain the larger differences in nighttime Ne observations between Spire and COSMIC-2 at 150 km and 510 km altitudes?

The minor revision of English Language is needed.
Author Response
We appreciate your comment. We revised the manuscript to improve English as well as the figures and content. We provided clarification in a number of places and added a new subsection to discuss local time sampling differences and impacts.
Thank you for your review and encouragement.
Sincerely,
-Dong Wu
