Preparation, Properties, and Applications of Near Stoichiometric Lithium Tantalate Crystals
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The presented review is interesting and useful. Since new articles are published every month, it is necessary to systematize them periodically. However, there are a number of questions and comments about the presented article:
1. It is not entirely clear what the authors want to say by reproducing Figure 6.
2. Table 2 is not referenced in the text of the article.
3. The article does not reflect the influence of stoichiometry on optical properties (vibrational spectra, transmission, etc.). For example, as in some manuscripts:
-L. Shi et al., Solid State Commun. 135, 251 (2005)
- L. Shi et al., Mater. Chem. Phys. 95, 229 (2006),
-S. M. Kostritskii et al., Appl. Phys. B 82, 423 (2006)
-S. M. Kostritskii et al., Appl. Phys. B 95, 125 (2009)
4. There is probably a typo in Table 2 in the sentence "Easy induct impu".
5. There is probably an error in the caption to Fig. 14: index (2) must be upper.
6. Remarks on the list of references:
- in reference [5], there is an error in the name of the journal;
-articles linked to [8] and [29] are written mainly in Chinese; some readers will have to use a translator to understand the full text and not just the annotation, figures and bibliography;
-reference [50] refers to lithium niobate; what does it have to do with lithium tantalate?
-references [57] and [59] lack output data;
-in reference [61], you can add "PhD Thesis";
-link [62], probably, is a patent of the authors of the article; I can't find and access the text through Google or Yandex;
- among the links from sections 4 and 5 of the article, there are only 4 links after 2010; this is too little for a review article.

Reviewer 2 Report
I have read the paper, and my general opinion about this work is positive. The paper's general quality is acceptable and all the analysis seems to be correct. The authors in detail described the properties of LiTaO3 crystals focusing on the problem of stoichiometry in this material. The paper is clearly and carefully written and is well organized. The language and the style in my opinion are OK, I have found only a few mistakes or typo errors. Here are some more comments on this paper:
- Most of the figures are provided with low quality, I understand they are just copied, but better quality would improve their readability, if possible they should be replaced by better ones
- In Table 2 there is the sentence “1. Easy induct impu….” Seems it is not finished, something is needed here. Also in Table 2, there is “2. The crystal thickness is
very thin” which sounds strange, should be just “The crystal is very thin”.
- The caption of Fig 12 needs some corrections, The capital letter is missing in the beginning and should be W/cm2, not w/cm2
In summary, I recommend a minor revision of the paper.

Round 2
Reviewer 1 Report
The authors took into account most of the reviewer's comments, which improved the peer-reviewed article.
As a small edit, I propose to add the following article:
T. Kohler et al., J. Mater. Chem. C 11, 520 (2023).
