Selecting Antagonistic Yeast for Postharvest Biocontrol of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in Papaya Fruit and Possible Mechanisms Involved
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The manuscript Selecting Antagonistic Yeast as Postharvest Biocontrol of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides on Papaya Fruit and Possible Mechanisms Involved is very interesting and innovative. Anthracose causes large losses in the food industry and new methods of combating it are constantly being searched for, which will also be ecological. The manuscript under review fits perfectly into this trend. The manuscript is written correctly, good research methods and description of the results are used.
Detailed comments:
line 15, 120 - C. gloeosporioides must be in italics
Chapter 2.3 - Are the sequences and isolates deposited somewhere?
line 310, 311 - no superscript (5 x 108 cells)
It would be good to present photos of papaya with antagonistic yeast (if it is possible)

- The title may be modified as "Selecting Antagonistic Yeasts for Postharvest Biocontrol of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides in Papaya Fruit and Possible Mechanisms Involved "
- Line 13 change "causing" to "causes"
- Line 15 change 'yeast" to "yeasts", "C. gloeosporioides" in italics
- Line 16 change "Among isolated strains" to "Among them,"
- Line 19 remove "test"
- Line 20 change " activities on spore germination and fungal growth........" to "activity based on spore germination and fungal growth inhibition. . In vivo, the strain F001 caused 66.7%
and 25% reductions in disease incidence and severity, respectively. Based on molecular identification, the strain F001 was confirmed as Trichosporon asahii. Even though there was no significant induction of defense enzyme activities found on the treated fruits, SEM observation showed direct attachment of T. asahii with the fungal hyphae and interfere in their establishment to the fruit surface. Based on these findings, the antagonistic yeast T. asahii strain F001 may be used as a potential natural biological control agentagainst anthracnose disease on papaya fruit ." - Line 31 change "ranged" to "ranging"
- Line 33 change "postharvest when it becomes favorable"
- Line 35 change "continued" to "continue'
Similar major grammar check is required before the manuscript can be published. The authors are advised to thoroughly correct the entire manuscript with help from professionals if needed.
*The SEM images where the author claims attachment of the yeast cells to the fungus is not clearly evident.
**Visual results of dual culture plates and microscopy images of mycelial growth inhibition and spore germination inhibition of the potential isolates could strengthen the manuscript instead.
