Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this manuscript, the authors generally describe arbuscular mycorrhiza and this type of mycorrhiza in wheat. The authors present this mycorrhiza and its benefits for the plant under various stress conditions. The manuscript is appropriately structured but I still have a few comments:

I suggest adding "wheat" to the keywords. Line 33-36: This sentence requires a citation. Line 55: Please, remove „Bonfante et al., 1982“. I recommend moving Figure 1 after the second section (to line 67). All Latin names must be in italics. Chapter 3 should be divided into sub-headings - 1 Salinity stress; 3.2 Drought stress; and 3.3 Heavy metal stress Line 160, 163, 171, and 176: these four types of AMF ability to alleviate salt stress are preferable to separate them by numbering or bullets. Line 226, 228, 231, 234, and 238: the same as above. The last 2 sentences in Chapter 3 do not belong to the manuscript. Line 346-353: This sentence is too long. It should be divided into more sentences. But basically, throughout the manuscript, too long sentences are used. For better clarity and readability, please consider using shorter sentences. Line 379-381: This sentence requires a citation. Chapter References: References must be numbered! This is necessary to find a suitable citation from the main text. All references must be modified according to the journal's instructions.

Finally, I would recommend checking the English and editing the entire manuscript according to the instructions. There are very large spaces at the beginning of some lines. Also, the figure caption requires its own formatting.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear authors,

In this manuscript, the authors present an overview of the current knowledge of wheat-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi symbiosis. Overall, it provides a decent amount of information on this topic. I have following suggestions/comments to revise the manuscript.

Line 63: Change ‘Ten-forty percent’ to ‘Ten to 40 % of the …..

Figure 1: spelling error; Ecten.. = ectoendomycorrhizae

Line 81: correct spelling error; ectendo…….

Figure 1: If possible, can you make 3 different types of colonization with 3 different colors? Does not the AM type have cross wall like others?

Revisit line 84 to 86 as: Many studies have examined the key role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) for nutrients uptake and translocation, discovering the plants roots surface area increment.

Revisit line 88: …….area of soil than the host plant’s roots can reach.

Italicize all of the scientific names included in the manuscript (Line 106, 107 etc.).

Line 125: replace registered with documented.

Line 132: revisit the sentence as;…inoculation of AMF with biochar treatment to improve……..

Line 160 to 176: List them as i)…Iv).

Line 177, 236: delete reactive oxygen species, use only ROS (already spelled out at line 153).

Line 232: lake or lack?

Line 284: replace aroused with increased.

Line 309 to 311: Out of context. Delete last 2 sentences.

Line 405: susceptible is typically refers to the plant-pathogen interactions, revise as ……highly effective to mycorrhizal symbiosis. Revisit other sentences accordingly.

References: Include numbers for all the references according to the citation chronology in the text. . (1…………116).
