Analysis of Regional Changes in Geodetic Mass Balance for All Caucasus Glaciers over the Past Two Decades
Abstract
:1. Introduction
- (i)
- analyze the behavior of glaciers in the Greater Caucasus separately from the Middle East;
- (ii)
- estimate changes in surface elevation and geodetic mass balance for all Caucasus glaciers over the past two decades according to river basins and analyze these changes on sub-regional (e.g., western vs. eastern; northern vs. southern) and individual glaciers (e.g., debris-covered vs. debris-free);
- (iii)
- compare this data with those from local existing ground-based and geodetic mass balance measurements along with local climate observations from high-mountain meteorological stations.
