The paper “Towards a Lattice Boltzmann Method for Solids - Application to Static Equilibrium of Isotropic Materials” aims to simulate the behavior of solid objects with the Lattice Boltzmann Method. The study is well presented and shows interesting results, so it would be advisable to publish it after changes:
- The main text of the submitted manuscript is 19 pages and the appendix is 14 pages. In my opinion, both of them are too long. Authors must reduce the manuscript length.
- Sections 1-3 length have to be reduced.
- Section 5 has to enclose only the discussions of the obtained results. For a better understanding of the obtained results, other theoretical sections must be removed
- In figures with multiple panels, they should be listed as a,b,c, etc

Dear authors,
Thank you very much for the interesting contribution in the large framework of lattice-Boltzmann simulations.
The paper is well strcutured and the references are complete - to my knowledge - since the simulation of solids with a lattice-Boltzmann scheme is a new field.
As a reviewer, I miss one important aspect in the paper. The comparison of the results to a COMSOL simulation is fine but nut sufficient. There should be additionally a mesh study for one of the mechanical studies included. Thus would proof the convergence of the method.
One drawback of the lattice-Boltzmann method is the cartesian grid with constant spacing. FEM works on an unstructured grid and the mesh can be adapted to the (expected) stress distribution.
Changing the resoltion of the mesh would also give a relation of lattice nodes and computation time (Table 2). Thus, one could extrapolate to larger simulation domains in 2D and 3D.
If this study is added, I recommend the paper for publication.
