Comments to the authors_Applied Science:

Thank you for the invitation to review the manuscript entitled “Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Hospitalized Patients”. The manuscript is a review aimed at helping medical providers managing inpatient comorbid OSA.

Despite being a literature review with all the known shortcomings, the manuscript is well written, is relatively comprehensive, and it provides nice summaries with tables and figures.

I only have very few minor comments below, which are very easily addressable. Beside the ones expressed below, I also encourage the authors to include a new paragraph with the difference / obstacles in treating inpatients vs outpatients individuals with OSA with the same modality.

After these minor corrections, I recommend for the publication of the manuscript.

Incidence and Prevalence in Hospitalized Patients

- line 43: more recent data have been released compared to the references quoted by the authors (e.g., Benjafield AV et al. Estimation of the global prevalence and burden of obstructive sleep apnoea: a literature-based analysis. Lancet Respir Med 2019;7: 687-98), which I suggest including.

- line 56: PSG has already been spelt out previously.

- lines 59-60: CHF and COPD need to be spelt out the first time they are mentioned (not in line 79)

-line 67: PAP needs to be spelt out

Table 1 and Table 2: the acronyms need to be spelt out in the caption.

Treatment options in hospitalized patients:

- line 186-194: beside the systematic review, it would be more appropriate if the authors included studies conducted on inpatients individuals

Conclusion:

- eliminate lines 391-393

Reviewer 2 Report

The review article entitled “Management Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Hospitalized Patients” aimed to help physicians and other providers in inpatient settings manage comorbid OSA. The below are my comment/ suggestion:

1.      According to the Instruction for Authors, reference numbers should be placed before punctuation for the manuscript. Besides, abbreviation should be defined in the first time appearance for abstract, main text and figure/tables. Such as OSA CHF in line 20, US in line 43, GERD in Table1 etc. Please revise for the full manuscript.

2.      Infection diseases are comment in hospitalized. It may contribute the severity of OSA (i.e. references: Strausz, S., et al. (2021); Tufik S. (2020); Eva M. Mok, et al. (2020)). It is recommended to make a supplementary in Section 6.

3.      Table 1 and Table 2, as well as figure 1 were critical summaries for the manuscript. However, many items were not described in the main text. Such as “Erectile dysfunction” in Table 1,“Reposition” in Table 2, “high flow nasal cannula 20-40L” in figure 1. Please clarify more.

4.      Please arrange “Management of OSA in hospitalized patients is outlined in figure 1.” (line 144) in the right place.

5.      Was the sentence “ section may be divided by…can be drawn” (line 390-393) extra?
