On the Evaluation of Complex Networks Designs for an Energy-Efficient IP/WDM Core Network
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This paper implements the topologies such as scale-free, small-world, and random on the NSF IP over WDM core network. Based on the MILP optimization model, simulation results validate that the proposed energy-minimized topology designs can increase the average clustering coefficient, significantly reduce the average shortest path length and the energy consumption by comparing the current NSF network. In general, this article is relatively complete, but some minor details need to be improved.
1. To ensure that the data is consistent in the context, it is recommended to modify the numbers “27%”&“17%” in the Abstract and Conclusion to numbers “28%”&“13%” which is simulated in the Results and Discussion.
2. In Section IV, the concept of diameter can be moved to Table 1. And the concept of average path length is repeated with <L> in Table 1. In addition, it will be clearer if <L> can be expressed with a formula.
3. Distinguish between “average shortest path length(<L>)” and “diameter”. For example, “(diameter)”should be deleted from the title in Figure 6.
4. Considering the preciseness of the presentation, the condition “when small world network design with p=1” could be added to the last sentence of the paragraph “Along with the shortest average path…” in Section IV.
5. In the last paragraph of Section V, “Section X” needs to be modified to “Section V”. And the title of the last picture “Figure x” needs to be modified to “Section 13”.
6. It is recommended to replace Figure 8 & Figure 9 with a clearer image.
7. The sentence “The total Network Power Consumption (NPC) is given in (1)” should be changed to “The total Network Power Consumption (NPC) is given in (11)” in Section VI. And the sentence “Figures 12 and 13 present saving percentages…” should be changed to “Figures 12 presents saving percentages…” in section VII.
8.In order to be the same as the data in the first paragraph of section VII, the shortest path length of the current NSF could be changed from 2 to 2.175.
9. It is recommended to unify abbreviation of scale-free network as “SFN” in the article.
10. The figure in the article should indicate the quantity. For example, the ordinate of Figure 13 should be labeled “PC”.
