Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article analyses the impact of control elements on the performance of a variable capacity heat pump. The authors proposed a different approach to traditional control of an air heat pump, which provides another level of control over its operating cycle. This topic is very interesting from a practical point of view.

The authors have built an interesting stand testing the air-air heat pump integrated into ventilation system.

The theses put forward in this study have been correctly proven by experimental research.

I do not have any substantive comments related to this article.

In my opinion, this paper was written with all requirements for the scientific reports.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

In this paper, experiments on heat pumps integrated in ventilation equipment have been carried out, the study examines the performance characteristics of the heat pumps and some interesting conclusions have been drawn. However, there are some critical issues exist. The detailed comments are listed below.

(1) About novelty

In Introduction, the author fails to give a clear and persuasive explanation of the novelty of the work. The originality should be further justified by highlighting that the manuscript contains sufficient contributions to the new body of knowledge. The knowledge gap needs to be clearly addressed in Introduction.

(2) About experiment

In the Materials and Methods, the experimental equipment is introduced in detail. However, the experimental steps and procedures are not clear enough, so it is suggested to explain them in the form of diagram or table.

(3) About conclusions

The conclusions part is lack of depth, so it is suggested that the experimental results should be discussed more comprehensively. And put forward the corresponding enlightenment and suggestions.

(4) About Citations and bibliographies

The content of the research review is substantial, but it lacks logic and coverage of the latest research. It is suggested that the author add a discussion of the latest progress and quote newer and more comprehensive papers.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This study is intended to analyze the performance characteristics of VAV heat pumps, and the research method is appropriate and the experiment and analysis process is judged to be excellent. In order to further improve the completeness of the study, the author is requested to modify the resolution and expression method of the figure.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper aim to present an additional element to the traditional heat pump controls, which provides a third level of control over the cycle. The study examined the performance characteristics of the heat pump and found that the variable volume heat pump performs similarly to a conventionally operated typical constant-volume heat pump system.

Would it be possible to color code the AHU and HP parts in picture 1? It would be clear.

The description of Figure 2 has been moved to page 6 below the Figure.

In Figure 5, I recommend marking and describing the main parts. What's up?

The article contains high-quality images and graphs. Sufficiently colorful and legible.

The report on the originality of the document showed that the similarity index is 20%. In the end, it is shown that the similarity index is from 88 different sources. This proves that the article is original and not a copy. The highest value was achieved by 1 source (Anton Frik, Vytautas Martinaitis, Juozas Bielskus. "ENERGY CONVERSION MODES DEPENDING ON THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE FOR AN AIR HANDLING UNIT WITH A HEAT PUMP", Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, 2020).

This article uses picture 1 on p. 3. Which is almost the same as the authors used in their article. I recommend the authors to change the picture 1 a little so that it is not a copy of the cited article. Alternatively, use the link to the given image.

After minor adjustments, I recommend publishing this article in the given magazine.
