Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript by Wan et al. investigated the effects of chemical fertilizer combined with organic fertilizer application on soil properties, citrus growth physiology, and yield. Developing appropriate combination of chemical fertilizer with organic and bioorganic fertilizer application is important for the further expansion of citrus cultivation sector and the findings of this study provide useful information that will help to achieve such a goal. Overall, the study is well designed and executed, data properly analysed, methodology detailed, and results well discussed. On this basis.

  1. The authors did not mention the number of replications of each treatment and also experimental design.
  2. How did the authors add bio organisms such as bacteria…..? How did the authors confirm bioorganisms available in the bioorganic fertilizer after addition?
  3. The author should mention the recommended dose of organic and bioorganic fertilizer in abstract and conclusion that improve citrus growth physiology and yield.

- Line no. 121. Organic matters such as slag…..bean are…it will be ‘were’ not are.

-Line no. 144-145. Then the dry matter of a hundred of leaves was ……it will be were not was.

-Line no. 152-153. The same protocol used for leaf measurement of N, ………….for roots and fruits. This sentence is not clear.

-Line no 166. Soil porosity…………..following haque et al. It will be Haque et al. not haque et al.

- Line no. 178, 213. Why did the authors write sucrose? It  will be sucrase not sucrose. Because sucrose is not enzyme.

- In line no. 225-226, the author mentioned Figure 3(a) in case of CO2 emission flux….but I found that Figure 3(a) indicates SPAD and Figure 2(a) indicates carbon flux, why?

- In line no. 232-233, the author mentioned Figure 3(b) in case of NO3N…..but I found that Figure 3(b) indicates Pn and Figure 2(b) indicates NO3N, why?

- In line no. 312, the author mentioned Figure 1(a) in case of leaf SPAD values….but I found that Figure 1(a) indicates the microbial properties of soil, including bacteria and Figure 3(a) indicates SPAD, why?

- In line no. 318, the author mentioned Figure 1(b) in case of Pn…..but I found that Figure 1(b) indicates the microbial properties of soil including actinomycetes and Figure 3(b) indicates photosynthetic rate (Pn), why?

-In line no. 322, the author mentioned Figure 1(c) and (d) in case of PIabs and PItotal…..but I found that Figure 1(c) and (d) indicate fungi and urease, respectively and Figure 3(c) and (d) indicate PIabs and PItotal, respectively, why?

In discussion, line no 391. The chemical fertilizer…….. should be specifically N .

The article is not a novelty. The results confirm that the organic orchard mangement is a good approach to improve soil property and citrus quality.
In the article it's necessary to add in the introduction and in the duscussion more references on citrus. Many study was conducted on citrus in this argument and must be reported.
In line 18, 90-91 and 102-103 write correctly the citrus name;
in line 121 add mayor details on slag etc, the origin matrix composition;
in paragraph 2.2-2.3 specify the number of sample
in line 226 figure 3 a was wrong (2?)
in table 4 change P2O5 and K2O in P and K.
The paper must be uniformed with the journal rules .
