The participants in our project did not demonstrate high levels of loneliness. However, in the interviews, most of them reported that they faced social rejection in entertainment, education, and employment. Social rejection can lead to social isolation. Furthermore, there is evidence that ‘social isolation and loneliness are associated with increased risk of acute myocardial infarction and stroke’.
