Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper proposes a digital-intensive dynamic offset cancellation technique for an open loop VCO-based sensor to digital converter. The paper presents both a simulation of the behavioral model and hardware implementation of the proposed architecture, which demonstrates promising results. Overall, the abstract provides a good overview of the proposed technique and its potential benefits for sensor systems operating in radiation environments. Below are few concerns:

1.       In fig.4, can the authors please put two noise power spectrum densities in the same figure for better visual comparison?

2.       The drift improvement comes from periodic adjustments. Please state how often the adjustment needs to be and what is the additional hardware resource.

3.       The current calibration is done offline? Anyway to run an automated calibration?

4.       Apparently, a larger R. value gives better results. What are the limiting factors to implementing a larger R.? What are the trade-offs?

5.       Please give a comparison between other works that also focus on drift alleviation.

The manuscript "Frequency based sensor interface with dynamic offset compensation", proposed a digital architecture to suppress the output offset error by the calibration of the average center biasing voltage of VCO. There are some interesting points in the manuscript, including the extraction of the interpolation data, the range of VCO frequency drift, the voltage resolution, etc.. However, following issues should be addressed:

1. There are some grammar mistakes and typos in the manuscript. For example, at line 230, why fre-quency?

2.Some sentences in the manuscript should be revised. Direct expression would be better than the indirect ones.

3. The quality of Fig.4 should be improved. Some texts are too close.

4.Why there are two Fig.6s and two Fig.7s? It is very weird.

5. Some other published related references should be supplemented.

6. Comparisons with other works should be supplemented.

Reviewer 3 Report

Using PLL in the structure provides a locked frequency without the variations in a VCO. The authors have reviewed the previous works in the literature and some of them are implemented based on the PLL. Therefore, it will be very helpful to provide a comparison table for your work and the other works including the rows such as structure, application, implementation type, technology and some common performance parameters. This is an intuitive way to provide a comparable detailed results and conclusion for the reader.

After providing a comparison table, an intuitive discussion is possible that completes the provided general introduction about the prior works.
