The Cu II Spectrum
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
I suggest that the authors include Shenstone's work on Cu II in 1927 (published in Phys Rev) which will improve the presentation and make the introduction truly comprehensive.
Author Response
The paper is not intended to cover the complete history of studies of Cu II, which trace back to 1914. The mentioned early work of Shenstone was completely superseded in his later paper of 1936 [1], and we see no reason to mention the particular 1927 paper.

(1) Table 1 is put before Table 2 for two reasons: 1) because the data in Table 2 are derived from those of Table 1; 2) because in the text we first discuss the wavelength measurements reported in Table 1; the level optimization discussed in Section 3 largely relies on the wavelength values and uncertainties given in Table 1. Therefore, we prefer to retain the order of the tables.
(2) Actually, the W in the equations is in upper case; it appears small because the Word’s Equation Editor automatically decreases the font size in ratios. We solved the problem by breaking the equations in two parts each and adjusting the font size in each half.
We replaced "SNR" with "S/N" as suggested by the reviewer.
(3) In Ref.29, we replaced "v.3" by "v.93." as suggested by the reviewer. Thank you for catching this error!
Reviewer 3 Report
I found this paper to be extremely well written. All data and graphs are clearly presented. Te style of presentation is flawless. The work reports a comprehensive revision and extension of the information available on the Cu II spectrum. The authors clearly describe the methods used to collate and refine available data and provide a thorough analysis of errors and of sources of error in previous compilations. In the process they make a very thorough study of available intensity data and provide a very useful compilation of A-values and an interesting and well-justified evaluation of coupling schemes.
The paper will be of inestimable value to researchers requiring accurate spectroscopic information for accurate modelling of plasma conditions in fusion, laser or astrophysical studies.
In my opinion, this paper should be published as it stands.
