Portuguese Validation of the Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire (YSEQ) for the Physical Education Context
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for Authors*The relevance of the validated instrument to the context of physical education needs to be further substantiated. What is presented is very much in the sports context.
*Clearly specify the studio design used and mention use of MacDonald's omega.
*Review the interpretation of the p-value in the Chi-square test.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThank you for allowing me to review this paper. The authors have done a great job in validating the questionnaire, but I would like to offer some recommendations.
Introduction:
The introduction provides an overview of the benefits of sports practice and physical education. However, it would be advisable for the authors to also include a brief discussion of some negative aspects or undesirable behaviors that can emerge in these contexts, such as bullying. Including these elements would offer a more comprehensive and balanced view of the physical education and youth sports environment, highlighting the importance of tools like the YSEQ questionnaire to evaluate group dynamics more holistically.
Materials and Methods:
The methodology used is solid, and I commend the authors for the rigor in validating the questionnaire. However, it would be important to clarify if any additional instructions were provided to students on how to complete the questionnaire and whether the researcher was present during its administration. This information is relevant as it could influence how participants interpreted the questions and, consequently, the results obtained. The presence or absence of a researcher could affect the validity of responses and the setting in which students completed the questionnaire.
Results:
The results highlight the lack of scalar invariance between genders, which limits the comparability of mean scores across groups. It would be helpful for the study to delve deeper into possible reasons for this lack of invariance.
Discussion:
In the discussion, the authors mention that greater team cohesion is associated with greater social affiliation. This is a valuable conclusion; however, it could benefit from a broader analysis exploring how this relationship might manifest in contexts beyond physical education, such as competitive sports or other youth settings. To strengthen this section, additional citations of previous studies exploring this relationship in different contexts are recommended. This would enrich the discussion and position the study within a broader perspective.
Limitations and Conclusion:
The limitations and conclusion sections are appropriate and provide a coherent closing to the study.
Practical Implications:
It is important to note that the practical implications need improvement. As currently written, they resemble content from the referenced article (https://doi.org/10.3390/educsci14101038), which could be interpreted as potential plagiarism.
