Educational Justice

Dear Colleagues,

Last year, Education Sciencies initiated a Special Issue on the topic of educational justice throughout the world. Now, the guest-edited issue has been closed. Four manuscripts have been published, three of which are by authors with a theological background. As such, the question of what role religion plays regarding educational justice in a global context, is reflected in the different contributions. The spectrum of topics covered ranges from the concept of justice, which could be used in a Christian context; to the contribution of Christian religion to an increase in educational justice; to the concept of culturally responsive teaching. These concepts can help to conceptualize the connection between education and social justice and the task of schools, which is to draw on the cultural wealth of students and to foster the various forms of cultural capital. By this means, students learn not to be victims of a one-sided school system that reproduces forms of injustice.

I would like to cordially thank all the authors who, through their articles, made an important contribution to this key question of the role of religion in educational justice.
