Comments and Suggestions for Authors

It is a beautiful piece of work. There are justifications that support the deployment of the paper argument. The 'audience' is able to follow up on the author's perspective. It is also well-structured that enhances the presentation that gives a few incentives. It was a pleasure reviewing this piece of work. I was also made myself more familiar with the concerned jurisdiction.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This manuscript deals with analyses of the patent landscape of organizations based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from May 2016 until September 2024. The authors described the importance of patent data in analyzing innovation, which could be related to the Saudi Vision 2030. Despite the study being technically well performed regarding different aspects, from my point of view, this paper addresses some issues and has some limitations that are not discussed or even mentioned and should be clarified.

Comments

1.      The key findings should be presented in the “Abstract” section.

2.      Abstract: All abbreviations should be presented at first apparition.

3.      The list of keywords should be reduced.

4.      Avoid sub-sections in the “introduction” section.

5.      At the end of the introduction, the authors should present a summary of the methodology followed in this paper.

6.      The sub-section “1.3. Research Methodology” should be presented as a section.

7.      For this research article, the manuscripts must be formatted as follows:

-        Introduction

-        Research Methodology

-        Results and Discussion

-        Conclusions

8.      At first apparition, all originations cited in the manuscript should be supported with the headquarters city. Example: Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Dhahran, KSA), King Saud University (Riyadh, KSA), etc.

9.      The author should specify if the patent family score concerns simple families or extended families.

10.   The author should provide the relevant IPC codes (with definitions) for top KSA-based organizations listed as assignees.

Author Response

Thank you for your valuable feedback and constructive suggestions. I have carefully considered each comment and revised the manuscript accordingly.

  1. Key findings in the Abstract:

Comment: The key findings should be presented in the “Abstract” section.

Response: I have revised the abstract to include a concise summary of the key findings, highlighting the trends in patent registration, the technological domains with the most activity, and the involvement of various stakeholders in the KSA innovation ecosystem.

  1. Abbreviations in the Abstract:

Comment: Abstract: All abbreviations should be presented at first apparition.

Response: I have ensured that all abbreviations used in the abstract are defined at their first occurrence.

  1. Keywords:

Comment: The list of keywords should be reduced.

Response: I have reduced the number of keywords to focus on the most relevant terms.

  1. Introduction Sub-sections:

Comment: Avoid sub-sections in the “introduction” section.

Response: The introduction has been streamlined by removing the sub-sections, creating a more concise and focused narrative.

  1. Methodology Summary in the Introduction:

Comment: At the end of the introduction, the authors should present a summary of the methodology followed in this paper.

Response: A brief summary of the research methodology, including the data sources and analysis techniques, has been added to the end of the introduction to provide readers with a clear overview of the study's approach.

  1. Research Methodology as a Separate Section:

Comment: The sub-section “1.3. Research Methodology” should be presented as a section.

Response: The research methodology has been moved from a sub-section within the introduction to a dedicated section (Section 2), as suggested.

  1. Manuscript Structure:

Comment: For this research article, the manuscripts must be formatted as follows:

  • Introduction
  • Research Methodology
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions

Response: The manuscript has been restructured to follow the recommended format: Introduction, Research Methodology, Results and Discussion, and Conclusions.

  1. Organization Headquarters:

Comment: At first apparition, all originations cited in the manuscript should be supported with the headquarters city. Example: Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Dhahran, KSA), King Saud University (Riyadh, KSA), etc.

Response: I have added the headquarters city for all organizations at their first mention in the manuscript, providing greater context and clarity for readers.

  1. Patent Family Score:

Comment: The author should specify if the patent family score concerns simple families or extended families.

Response: I have clarified that the patent family score used in the analysis refers to simple patent families (Line numbers, 163-168).

  1. IPC Codes for Top Organizations:

Comment: The author should provide the relevant IPC codes (with definitions) for top KSA-based organizations listed as assignees.

Response: I have included a paragraph with an analysis of the International Patent Classification (IPC) codes for the top KSA-based organizations. This analysis provides insights into the technological focus areas of these organizations and enriches the discussion of the patent landscape in Saudi Arabia (Line Numbers: 295-323).

I believe these revisions have significantly improved the manuscript and addressed all of your concerns. I appreciate your time and effort in providing this constructive feedback.
