Department of Biomedical and Dental Sciences, Morphological and Functional Images, University of Messina, Policlinico G. Martino, Via Consolare Valeria, 98100 Messina, Italy
Prosthesis 2021, 3(1), 9-10; https://doi.org/10.3390/prosthesis3010002
Submission received: 4 January 2021 / Revised: 5 January 2021 / Accepted: 5 January 2021 / Published: 7 January 2021
The scientific journal Prosthesis (ISSN 2673-1592) had its first issue published in 2019 thanks to the publisher, MDPI. In December 2019, in particular, the Inaugural issue containing the Editor-in-Chief’s editorial was published. It quoted: “Prosthesis, as a biomedical journal, can be the main instrument for sharing knowledge and comparing experience pointed towards human benefit and progress” [1,2].
Since the creation of the International Editorial Board, the primary purpose of the scientific journal is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the field of medicine, reach an audience related to medicine and rehabilitation procedures, and also to report everything related to physics, mathematics, engineering and materials science. The request for submissions is constantly increasing and the main topic of the journal favors this. In addition, the constant work by the publisher to constantly encourage new submissions is further supported by the presence of different and quoted indexing such as: Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), or Google Scholar. Full texts are archived in CLOCKSS (digital archive), e-Helvetica (Swiss National Library Digital Archive), and J-Gate (Informatics India).
Currently, the scientific journal Prosthesis, therefore, continues to grow and to be increasingly known and requested by the scientific community. The opportunity of having a fast peer review process, and a high-quality reviewers board is an advantage for the scientific journal. Furthermore, different Special Issues have been released throughout 2020, with different topics and concerning different branches of medicine [1,2,3,4,5]. Innovative Prosthetic Device: New Materials, Technologies and Patients′ Quality of Life (QoL) Improvement edited by Marco Cicciu, Luca Fiorillo and Rosa De Stefano; Osseointegration of Oral Implants: Importance of Bone Implant Interface and Periodontal Health in Long-Term Survival Rates edited by Gaetano Isola; Prosthesis and Prosthetic Materials edited by Dorina Lauritano; Tissue and Immunological Features of the Human/Prosthesis Interface edited by Marco Cicciu; Antiviral and Antimicrobial Surface Design Strategies edited by Ajay Vikram Singh; Bioactive Materials for Dental and Maxillofacial Repair edited by Nichola J. Coleman and John W. Nicholson; Innovative Advanced Materials in Prosthodontics edited by Luca Fiorillo and Gabriele Cervino; Neural Communication Interface for Neuroprosthesis and Its Implementation edited by Hangue Park [6,7,8,9]; Selected Papers from the Conference Prosthetic Connection 2021 edited by Marco Cicciu and Alberto Bianchi [9].
This interdisciplinary approach is Prosthesis′ trump card. The journal is open to researchers from all fields, starting from mathematics, up to physics, engineering, medicine-surgical-rehabilitation, psychology and everything related to the rehabilitation of patients. The hope is to continue growing with this trend, while waiting for indexing such as PubMed and Scopus, scheduled for 2021–22.
