Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
On May 17, 2024, the World Health Organization updated its list of drug-resistant bacteria most threatening to human health, indicating that antimicrobial resistance is still a global challenge. Because of their rapid bactericidal activity and low chance for bacteria to generate resistance, bacteriophage lysins have been considered alternatives to traditional antibiotics. Since we organized the first Special Issue on bacteriophage lysins in 2021, many new developments have been achieved over the past 3 years. New lysins, especially lysins against Gram-negative bacteria, have been reported continuously. Some results from the clinical trial of lysins have been released. Now, it may be a good time to organize the second Special Issue on bacteriophage lysins to reflect the most recent advances in lysin research, both in preclinical and clinical settings.
We welcome contributions including, but not limited to, the following topics:
- The discovery of new lysins;
- Improvements in lysin properties, such as thermal stability, cell penetration, and activity;
- Synergy with other antimicrobials;
- Safety and the host’s immune response;
- Clinical trial design and results of lysin products;
- Other applications of lysins, such as in cosmetics and bacteria detection.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
