Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Human-centricity is emerging as a hallmark of the future value-driven industry, promoting sustainability, resilience, and societal well-being through advancements in AI. The hybrid human–AI paradigm alleviates humans from physically and mentally taxing tasks while enabling AI to manage uncertain, fuzzy, and irregular information, thereby maximizing their complementary skills. Today, rapid advancements in intelligent robotics, digital twins, embodied intelligence, large language models, and multi-agent collaboration are reshaping the landscape of human–AI interactions across diverse sectors such as generative design, smart manufacturing, and flexible automation. To facilitate this transformation, further exploration of potential technologies is needed to enhance joint decision-making, problem-solving, and information processing between human and AI entities, ultimately improving their overall performance and outcomes.

We are excited to announce a call for papers for our upcoming Special Issue dedicated to “Human-Centered AI Models and Machine Learning Technologies”. This Special Issue aims to delve into this promising and evolving research topic, showcasing state-of-the-art methodologies, tools, systems, and case studies that highlight advancements in human–AI hybrid intelligence and facilitate its implementation. Topics relevant to this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Theoretical foundations of human-centered AI models;
  2. Human–AI integration, interaction and collaboration;
  3. Human–AI in robotics, manufacturing, and automation;
  4. Machine learning techniques for human–AI hybrid intelligence;
  5. User experience design in human–AI systems;
  6. Evaluation metrics for human–AI collaboration;
  7. Trust and transparency in human–AI interactions;
  8. Training methodologies for enhancing human–AI synergy;
  9. Case studies and applications of human–AI hybrid models.

We welcome submissions of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, insightful case studies, and thought-provoking perspectives that explore the transformative role of AI technologies in shaping the future of industries.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
