Dear Colleagues,
In recent yearsspecial attention has been paid to natural-based products, mainly due to their ability to prevent the occurrence of many disorders, like metabolic syndrome, cancer, and cardiovascular and neurological diseases. In fact, plants are rich in several phytochemicals, highlighting the presence of phenolic compounds, whose chemical structure confers them notable health-promoting properties; indeed, contrary to synthetic molecules that lead to the development of unwanted side effects, it is also believed that natural molecules present few, if any, side effects.
Therefore, this Special Issue will publish high-quality, original research and review papers addressing the following fields:
- Biological potential of phenolic compounds and phenolic-rich sources, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer protection, among others;
- The capacity of phenolics and their sources to interact with target proteins and pathways;
- Strategies and new technologies to enhance the biological potential of phenolics and their rich sources, e.g., their (nano)encapsulation with liposomes;
- The health-promoting properties and practical use of phytochemicals.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
