Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Corrosion occurs in many aspects of our lives, affecting a range of objects, from cars to cooking utensils and household appliances, and is also common in other materials such as ceramics, rubber and plastics, as well as in a wide spectrum of industries such as energy, automotive, aerospace, and medical, among others. Corrosion may cause potential material failure, safety issues and large economic costs.
Corrosion is inevitable but can be controlled. Various types of corrosion inhibitors and processes have been studied to protect materials and devices. This Special Issue aims to discuss corrosion inhibitors and emerging anti-corrosion techniques. To that end, we welcome research results including, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Different types of corrosion inhibitors and new corrosion inhibitors for specific environments;
- Corrosion inhibitors’ design, preparation, performance evaluation, action mechanism and failure analysis;
- Theoretical simulations, experimental studies, and test technology of corrosion inhibitors;
- Sustainable development and E3 concepts (efficiency, economy and ecology), toxicological evaluations, environmentally friendly inhibitors, biomass corrosion inhibitors, aiming for higher efficiency and lower costs;
- Corrosion coatings and related techniques;
- Industrial applications’ development, such as materials processing, petrochemical plants, oil and gas wells, fuels industry, heating systems, metal products, reinforcing bars in the concrete and mining industries, etc.
This Special Issue provides a thorough introduction to anti-corrosion research, including experimental, theoretical, and modelling studies, as well as research concerning its applications. We welcome original full papers, communications, and reviews on this topic.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
